The Society For Open Nepal (SFON), Budhanilkantha Chapter, has distributed educational materials and scholarships in conflict-hit Rukum district of mid western region.

A press release issued by the SFON Budhanilkantha chapter said, the organization donated two computers, books worth more than forty thousand, few sports goods and also awarded scholarship worth Rs. 2000 each to seven deserving students of Rukum district, as part of the educational package of the organization.

The package was handed over amidst a function held at Shree Janata Higher Secondary School Khalanga.

SFON, a non-profit organization based in the US is assisting education programme in Nepal through its chapters. The Budhanilkantha chapter of SFON was established in 2002.

The release further said, the organization has plans to donate more computers, expand its scholarship programme and conduct training programmes for teachers also.

“Since this project is being conducted by students, it is not possible to drastically improve the infrastructure of Rukum, but this gesture has provided hope to people ravaged by the civil war that things are beginning to change for the better,” the statement further added.
